Recycling Field Trip

Student were excited for the field trip to the recycling center.
We were weighted on the scale at the beginning and end of the tour. We weighted 2480 pounds and lost 80 pounds by the end of the tour.

Pendleton creates 80-100 tons of garbage a day.
Pendleton recycles about 36% of that garbage.
This machine is like a giant WALL-E.

It makes cubes of material to be recycled. Metal...

cardboard...
office paper...
newspaper and magazine...(which are the only ones they will pick up at your house)

and electrical wire.

They make wood chips which are sent to a power plant and burned for electricity.

By the end of the morning, we had learned a lot of important information about protecting our community and planet!

Dirt Baby Hair Cuts

Look at all that hair growing on LA's Dirt Baby! We measure how much grass has grow in one week and gave them a little trim.

Homework

For homework this week, students are taking over the classroom. Each child needs to think of something they are good at or something they know that we may not know. They will create a mini lesson to teach the class. If your child loves to draw they can teach us an art lesson. If they know a lot about Sea World they can show us pictures and give us facts. If they love to make smoothies, they can bring supplies and give us a cooking lesson. Please check with me if there are supplies you might need for the lesson. Choose something that you are willing to manage; I will not be purchasing supplies for this. We will be teaching this lesson throughout the day on Friday, April 10th. The lesson should be 15-20 minutes long. Students need to create two test questions about their lesson at the bottom of this page and return them to me.

Have fun!
